Late rally falls short...NLB Mosquito red falls to Oakridge 2
The NLB mosquito red team started slow tonight, but finished strong...unfortunately the late rally just came up short.

The team had a tough time getting the bats going, facing a strong Oakridge pitcher in the first, who was the best they've faced yet this year. That seemed to set the tone for the early part of the game, as the bats seemed to fall silent for much of the game. They were able to hang in there, with good pitching, and some good defensive plays. They just needed a spark to get the team going.

That's what happened in the fifth. Ethan Kelly got a timely two out hit to score two runs. That seemed to be the spark the team needed. Jacob Blaha blanked the opponent in the bottom half of the fifth, and that was the momentum changer. The bats truly woke up in the sixth, as Jacob Blaha and Gavin Larocque Russel hit back to back bombs, that resulted in home runs. The two out rally continued, but unfortunately ended when a base runner was struck by a hit that surely would have kept the rally going. A tough break that can't be helped.

It was a solid game against a solid opponent, who stretched their league leading record to 4-0. NLB mosquito red has lost twice, both to the top two teams in the league, and only by two runs on both occasions. This is a great sign for the team moving forward, as they have shown toughness in their two losses. Next week's game will see Oakridge 1 visit the NLB mosquito red team on their turf. This will also be the first game where only the players pitch, as the coach pitch aspect ends. This will help the NLB red team, as the pitching staff has shown their strength in the first three games. With more timely hitting, the NLB red team will be tough to beat.
