Awesome pitching, great hitting, and solid defense results in a big win for North Mosquito Red
Submitted By BTRMO5 on Monday, July 11, 2016
It was a strong performance in all phases of the game, as North Mosquito red earned a 10-4 win vs. Oakridge 3.

Michael Ashton started the pitching duties, and threw a lot of strikes, keeping the Oakridge bats down, allowing only 3 runs in two and a third innings pitched. He helped his own cause, by legging out infield hits, and running the bases well, sliding in to home for our first run of the game. He played good defense on the mound, and played an all around solid game.

The bats got going early for North Mosquito red. Gavin Larocque-Russel swung the bat well with two big hits. Jacob Byloo, Daniel Shoemaker, Adrian Jones, and Cohen Stewart banks also got hits that helped boost the offence. Jacob Blaha hit a bomb to left field for his third home run in three games. Our other batters hung in there, and got key walks to extend innings. The offence put up ten runs against solid Oakridge pitching. It seems that North 5 is no longer intimidated by fast pitchers, which was the issue earlier in the season.

Jacob Blaha closed the door on Oakridge, pitching 2 shut out innings. There was no doubt that a comeback by Oakridge was unlikely, as Blaha was pitching strikes and hitting the corners.

North red's defense was stronger tonight than all season, with big plays extinguishing potential rallies by Oakridge. Gavin Larocque-Russel got a key fly out, and Sacha Sangalli gunned a batter out at first from third base, the first 5-3 (third to first) put out of the season. Our pitchers both fielded come-backers to help their own cause as well.

North Mosquito red continues their season on Friday night at Stoneybrook diamond (vs. North 3). The North 3 squad will be tough to beat, as they have played well lately. North Mosquito red will play a make up game vs. North 3 the following day.
