London Tecumsehs’ Tournament Champions!
Congratulations to the Rookie Nationals for going undefeated, and capturing the 2017 London Tecumsehs’ Tournament Championship this weekend.

The tournament started Friday afternoon in a game versus St. Thomas.  After facing deficits of 5-0 and 7-2, the Nationals rallied to score three runs in the sixth inning and two in the bottom of the seventh to tie the game in dramatic fashion.

Saturday’s first game saw the Nationals jump out to an early lead against Whitby and then play stifling defence in the last two innings to win 15-11.

The evening game on Saturday against Hamilton would determine which team finished first in the pool.  Things looked bleak for the Nationals early as the Cardinals led 10-2 after three innings.  However, the kids rallied to score eighteen runs over the last four innings and played strong defence to secure a 20-12 win.

The Nationals advanced to play the LaSalle Titans in Sunday morning’s semi-final game. Stellar defence and timely hitting propelled the kids to a 12-4 win.

In the championship game, the Nationals played a very talented and hard hitting Kitchener team, who had outscored their opponents 72 – 24 in four tournament games.  In a game which oscillated back and forth during the first five innings, the Nationals scored six in the sixth inning and three in the seventh inning to win 21 – 13, and capture the championship.

The weekend’s success was only possible because every member of the team made a meaningful contribution in each game.  At each moment when the kids faced adversity, they chose to rise to the occasion and respond with their bats and gloves.

The team wishes to thank their parents, grandparents, siblings and friends for their unwavering support throughout the weekend.

Go Nationals!
