As House League Convenor for Bantam, Midget and Junior NLBA Teams, I have assembled a brief summary of the Year End Finals.
In the Bantam West Division, Coach Dean Shill of the North Jays, led his team to a very respectable overall 5th place finish with a record of 8-8-0. While our newest Coach, Danielle Thompson, kept her North Cardinal kids positive all season while posting a 2-13-1 record to maintain 9th place overall. In the Playoffs, Forest took the Division Pennant as well as the “A” Finalist position, while DKMB won the “A” Division. The “B” Division winner was Byron and the “B” Division Finalist was Southwest. Overall the Bantam West “City Champions” was DKMB.
In the Midget East Division, the nearly unbeatable team of the North Jays, Coached by Kevin de Jeu, claimed the Pennant with a very respectable 16-4-1. Unfortunately they were defeated in the second round of the playoffs. Milt Agate’s North Cardinals earned 4th spot overall with a record of 8-12-1. The Play Offs saw the EBBA Kings place first overall as “A” Division winners while Dorchester fought hard to become the “A” Division “Finalist”.
In the Junior division it appeared that some teams were born from more of a “Competitive” make-up than others, which, in the eyes of some players and coaches may have served as more of an advantage to those teams. However, overall, teams played their best and the North Jays, headed by Rob Ford was known as the team that, “always had fun, no matter what”. Even though they finished the regular season with a record of 4-13-2 to finish in 10th place, they battled teams in the playoffs to earn them a very respectable 4th place finish. The dominant team from Lucan stayed in first place in the regular season holding off nearly every team to covet a 19-1-0 season record and was the clear winner taking the Pennant and the “A” Division Championship. Oakridge battled to take the “A” Finalist Title.
I would like to personally thank all the players, parents and especially the Coaches for all their great work and dedication all season. I look very forward to next season already!
Rob Ford – HL Convenor: Bantam-Junior
With four come from behind wins The North Fury won the A final in the peewee division last Sunday.
After three hard fought wins against Ilderton teams the Fury went up against Oakridge one in the final. In a back and forth game that featured great pitching and solid defence The Fury went up six runs going into the 6th and last inning. Oakridge slugged their way all the way back to tie the game at 14 apiece.
With the bases loaded and one out Ethan Bancroft smashed a shot through the Oakridge defence to score Devin Young with the winning run.
With two wins and a save Max Skinner was named The Fury M.V.P. for the playoffs.
A true team effort was needed to win all games.
Coach LaBelle would like to give a special thanks to Coach Skinner and the other Coach Labelle for all their hard work this year.
Anita Watkins Photography provided many amazing pictures for all the kids and gets the teams heart felt gratitude for being such a fabulous sponsor.
Congratulations to our Nationals
Peewees, Bantams and Minor Midgets as they now reign as the 2014 Pennant winners for their respective divisions. Our Nationals program took 3 out
of 9 available Pennants – the most of any association within LDBA!! This is a terrific achievement and a testament to our Coaches and Players!!!
